Cleveland Indians Minor League Update: Francisco Lindor, Chen-Chang Lee named to Futures Game roster

Francisco Lindor and Chen-Chang Lee will represent the Indians in 2013 Futures Game, which will take place the Sunday before the All-Star Game (July 14th). This is the premiere minor-league showcase of the season, and this marks the second time that Francisco Lindor will appear in it.

Even though Lindor grew up in Puerto Rico and attended high school in the US, he was included on the World Team (not the US Team), beating out some outstanding competition at shortstop for a spot. He and Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox are the two shortstops currently on the World Team roster, though Javier Baez (Cubs) and Carlos Correa (Astros) could be voted onto the team by the fans. The 19-year-old Lindor was considered the best defensive shortstop in the minors before the season began, and with his offensive game coming on, has a decent chance of being named the best prospect in baseball at the end of the season. He's probably a year to a year-and-a-half away from the majors at this point.

Chen-Chang (CC) Lee, who has just reached AAA, was also named to the World Roster. He's 26, but missed a big chunk of the 2012 due to Tommy John surgery. If not for the elbow injury, Lee might be pitching for the Indians right now. I think there's a very good chance that he'll pitch important inning for the Indians down the stretch this season.
