First place on Mother's Day. Not a huge milestone, but given where the Indians were two weeks ago, it's quite a turnaround. And winning a series against the Tigers on the road with both Scherzer and Verlander starting a game shouldn't be diminished no matter how early it is.
- In a game with multiple missed opportunities, Michael Brantley capitalized on the last one of the game to send the game into extra innings. Earlier that inning, Michael Bourn stole second with nobody out, but he was still there when Brantley went to the plate with two out. So many times over the past couple years the Indians had Valverde on the ropes but couldn't put him away, but this time they did.
- Zach McAllister didn't have good command of his pitches (most of his pitches were high), but stuck around through six innings, keeping the Indians within striking distance.
- Asdrubal Cabrera turned what could have been a disastrous play into a double play in the ninth inning. With nobody out and one on, Torii Hunter hit a ball back at Joe Smith, who then threw a slider to second, but Cabrera not only was able to somehow catch the ball, but get the relay to first in time despite having only his arm strength behind the throw. With Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder looming on deck, that might have saved the game right there.
- The Indians held the Tigers scoreless over the last four innings without using Chris Perez. Perez wasn't available because of his stressful outing the night before, according to Francona in his post-game conference. Today Francona used Rich Hill (2 outs) and Cody Allen (1 out)to get through the tenth inning. Allen earned his first Major League save, possibly one of the easiest he'll ever have even if he has a long career.
