Justin Masterson recently returned from Kenya, where he and his wife spent time visiting schools in one of the nation's largest slums, as part of their work with "Feed Their Future," a campaign to provide food, shelter, and education to impoverished children. The Masterson's helped to raise more than $200,000.
"I loved that no one had a clue what baseball is. I'm just another big bald guy, hanging out and trying to impact their lives."

MLB has released its annual drug-testing report, which shows that a record number of drug tests were administered (5,391), leading to 8 failed tests that led to suspensions (all for stimulants, primarily Adderall, a drug used to treat ADHD). The report also lists the 13 suspensions stemming from the Biogenesis scandal, none of which involved a failed drug test in 2013.

The Royals have extended General Manager Drayton Moore's contract by an additional two years (through 2016). I'm not convinced he's earned that extension, but it's not my money, and not my ball club. Sports Illustrated's Jay Jaffe details Moore's tenure in KC and comes to a similar conclusion.

The Dodgers and Hanley Ramirez are discussing a contract extension (Ramirez's contract is up after 2014). Ramirez is a tremendous talent (his 336 PA weren't enough to qualify him for the official lead, but his .638 SLG was the best in baseball among players with 100+ PA), but Ramirez turns 30 this month, and elbow, back, shoulder, and hamstring ailments have cost him more than 100 games over the last three seasons, which ought to give the team pause before committing too much money to his future.

Joe Posnanski looks at the lengths people will go to convince themselves (and others) of something they want to believe, in the context of Jack Morris' Hall of Fame supporters.

This Thanksgiving's biggest new movie release is Frozen, a cartoon about... well, I'm not exactly sure what it's about. There's a lot of snow involved, including a snowman who's head seems to fall of pretty easily. I won't be seeing it, but it did get me thinking about my favorite Disney animated films. I'm talking proper Disney, not its various subsidiaries (such as Pixar). I haven't seen a couple of these in years, but I've got fond memories.
Top 6 Disney animated movies:
6) One Hundred and One Dalmatians - Not quite as good as 'Two Dozen and One Greyhounds,' a classic episode ofThe Simpsons, but still pretty darn good.
5) Peter Pan - I refuse to believe Peter grew up to be Robin Williams.
4) The Lion King - The only one on this list that came out in my lifetime.
3) Robin Hood - Remains my favorite version of the oft-told story., despite the efforts of Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe.
2) Pinocchio - The hand-drawn animation here is more impressive to me than any of the computer effects seen today.
1) Dumbo - It's always been my favorite, and may or may not be the reason elephants are my favorite animal (it's chicken or the egg situation).
