Hoynsie reports in true burying the lede fashion that Nick Swisher is in town today to take his physical. Afterwards, the deal will be officially announced with much hoopla and flashing of cameras and asking of questions. There will also be the clearing of the roster space, so somebody on the fringe will likely spend a few days in limbo while he passes through waivers, probably Thomas Neal.
Hoynsie also notes that the Indians have reclaimed Russ Canzler off waivers from the Blue Jays and DFAd Jeanmar Gomez. I suspect Gomez clears waivers, but teams tinker with that 40th roster spot all winter.
The Indians also made Matt Antonelli a minor league NRI, so he'll be in Goodyear. Antonelli, a second baseman, is a former first round pick of the Padres. I suppose he's minor league middle infield depth, or Kipnis injury insurance.
Wondering about the Indians marketing software? I wasn't, but Google news gave me this hit, and I couldn't pass up an article quoting an Indians executive about the ease of running "what if scenarios." Really. I'm not making this up.
Jonah Keri suggests that the Indians' sale of STO may be the first sign that the local TV bubble is about to burst.
