2012 in Review: Tim Fedroff

Acquisition: Drafted in 7th round, 2008 out of the University of North Carolina

DOB: 2/4/1987 (2012 Age 25)

Bats: Left Throws: Right

Position: OF

Tim Fedroff made the jump from Akron to Columbus in 2011 and held down centerfield for the second half of the season, getting on base but not hitting for much power, putting up a line of .272 / .370 / .362 with 1 HR in 262 plate appearances and mostly playing center field.

To start 2012, Fedroff got caught in the glut of outfielders at Columbus* and started the season at AA Akron again. He put up good enough numbers in Akron (.305 / .396 / .443 with 3 homers) to earn a callup in early June, once the outfield herd was thinned a little bit.

Fedroff started out in left field and moved to center after Ezequiel Carrera was called up. Fedroff continued to show some power in Columbus, hitting 9 homers for the Clippers and posting a .325 / .393 /.517 line. Most likely, Fedroff has shown enough to be put on the 40-man roster in the offseason, especially given the underwhelming performance of the series of placefillers run out in leftfield this year.

Fedroff appears to have decent speed, hitting 10 triples between Akron and Columbus in 2012, but was successful on only 14 of 20 (70%) of stolen base attempts.

The Indians could make a move to fill left field from outside the system this offseason. If that happens, Fedroff likely gets a good look at filling the fourth outfield spot in Spring Training. If the Indians move Choo without getting outfield help in return, Fedroff could come into camp competing for a starting job. Most likely, Fedroff opens next year in Columbus with an opportunity to get a mid-season injury replacement audition callup.
