Minor League Recap: August 6 & 7

Columbus 1, Durham 4

Columbus 2, Durham 1 (10 innings)

Matt Packer made his season AAA debut on Monday, but surrendered four runs in 5.2 innings to take the loss. In yesterday's game, Eric Berger pitching six strong innings before giving way to four scoreless relief innings from Scott Barnes, Matt Langwell and J.C. Romero. Jason Donald and Vinny Rottino powered the offense, going 5-10 with three doubles.

Akron 1, Portland 3

Giovanni Soto was wild in his start, giving up five walks in four innings of work, along with five hits and three runs. Despite five innings of nearly perfect relief from Trey Haley, Kyle Landis and Preston Guilmet, Akron could not muster enough offense to beat the Sea Dogs. Juan Diaz did manage to go 2-4, hitting his 22nd and 23rd doubles of the season.

Carolina 6, Salem 2

Giovanny Urshela (#8) and Ronny Rodriguez (#13) each provided 3-run HRs, leading the Mudcats to victory. Urshela is not as heralded as some of the other young Latin American players in the system, but raised his season line to .267/.302/.402 with yesterday's performance. As a 20-year old, defensively gifted third baseman, Urshela has some upside as a prospect if he can continue his second half hitting (.280/.305/.463 in 43 games since the All-Star break).

Lake County 4, South Bend 3 (13 innings)

Lake County 7, South Bend 5

In Monday's extra-inning game, the Captains had 14 hits but couldn't manage to get a fourth run until the 13th inning. Mason Radeke struck out seven in his start, while Enosil Tejeda and Nicholas Pasquale provided strong relief. The offense managed to be more productive yesterday with the help of HRs from Jake Lowery (#7, fifth in the past 10 days) and Leo Castillo (#4).

Mahoning Valley 1, Tri-City 5

Mahoning Valley 2, Williamsport 6

Jacob Lee had a nice start for the Scrappers on Monday, while Jake Sisco was victimized by two HRs in his start last night.

AZL Indians 8, AZL Mariners 4

Claudio Batista went 2-4 with a triple and three RBI to help propel Goodyear to victory.
