The good teams may have those silly playoff races to pay attention to, but the Indians are part of a more important race...the race to obtain the first overall pick in next year's draft. Here's a quick overview of the competitors:

To be honest, the title of this post should be Race for the Second Pick, for barring a collapse, Houston has that locked down. It's going to be hard catching the Astros - Houston has matched the Indians loss for loss, and there's quite a bit of ground to make up with little time to do it in. But the Indians are within 5 losses of the second place Cubs, not to mention just behind Minnesota and Colorado for the 3rd and 4th selection next year. And the Indians are gaining ground fast on Colorado (15-15 in their last 30 games) and Minnesota (12-18 in their last 30).
Next up: A closer look at Cleveland's main competitors.
