Minor League Recap: August 25, 2012

Columbus 6, Indianapolis 8

Gregorio Petit and Matt Pagnozzi hit HRs for the Clippers, helping to rally Columbus from a 6-run deficit in the 8th and 9th innings. Tyler Sturdevant gave up a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th to Dallas McPherson, however, giving Columbus the loss. David Huff gave up 6 runs including 3 HRs in his start, raising his HR total to 26 on the season in 21 starts (20 in his last 10 starts).

Akron 4, Trenton 3

Chun-Hsiu Chen went 2-4 with his 5th HR of the season, while T.J. House, Shawn Armstrong and Preston Guilmet held the Trenton Thunder in check. Armstrong has allowed just two runs in 15 appearances with Akron, lowering his season ERA to 1.64.

Carolina 4, Salem 2

It was a busy game for Carolina Mudcat Justin Toole, who went 1-4 while playing all eight defensive positions. Toole also came in to pitch the 9th inning, with Carolina leading 4-0. After giving up back-to-back solo HRs, Toole ended the game with back-to-back Ks. In a bid to outshine Toole's effort, 3B Giovanny Urshela hit two HRs in the game, giving him 12 on the season. Since the Carolina midseason, Urshela has been playing the best ball of his career by a significant margin.

Lake County 0, Great Lakes 3

Luigi Rodriguez went 3-5, matching the hit production from the rest of the team. Joshua Nervis pitched three scoreless innings in relief, giving him seven scoreless innings since being promoted to Lake County.

Mahoning Valley 7, Auburn 3

A day after being held hitless for the first time with Mahoning Valley, Dorssys Paulino broke out with a 3-6 game, including two doubles. Aaron Siliga and Joe Wendle added a pair of hits each.

AZL Indians 2, AZL Reds 1

Hector Rondon pitched two perfect innings with 5Ks in his second rehab start in Goodyear. He was followed by strong outings from Luis Lugo (5.1IP, 5H, 1R, 0BB, 7K) and Thomas White (1.2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 4K). Jorge Martinez went 3-4 in the game, raising his line to .348/.391/.561, while Claudio Bautista hit his 5th HR of the season.
