Minor League Recap: August 17, 2012

Columbus 4, Durham 3

Cord Phelps and Russ Canzler continued their respective hot streaks, each notching solo-HRs (#16 and #19, respectively). Juan Diaz added a 2-run HR, his first since being promoted to Columbus. Matt Langwell, Scott Barnes and Tyler Sturdevant pitched 3.2 innings in relief, record nine of the eleven outs with Ks.

Akron 9, Reading 1

The Indians have slowly been building up Danny Salazar's workload all season, keeping him on a strict inning/pitch count limit all season. For the first time last night, the leash seems to have come off. Salazar gave up just three hits, no walks, while striking out eight batters in seven innings of work (95 pitches). Offensively, Thomas Neal, Matt Lawson and Davis Stoneburner all had three hits.

Carolina 4, Myrtle Beach 3

Fabio Martinez made his third relief appearance since joining Carolina, successfully getting through an inning without any walks or wild pitches (one hit batsman). Ronny Rodriguez hit his fourth triple and Todd Hankins added his second HR of the season.

Lake County 5, Dayton 3

Mason Radeke allowed just one hit in six innings, with one walk and six Ks, good enough to earn his first victory as a starter (despite more than a K per inning and a better than 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio). Bryson Myles hit his third HR of the season.

Mahoning Valley 2, Batavia 3

Jake Sisco kept Batavia to just two runs in seven innings, but it was not enough for the Scrappers to pull out a win.
