Tribe Minor League Recap: July 30-31, 2012

Columbus (AAA)

Rochester 10, Columbus 8
Roberto Hernandez made his first start at the AAA level in 2012, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. His threw 83 pitches, and threw his fastball sat in the low-90s. He'll have at least two more starts before being eligible to pitch in majors. On the offensive side, Matt LaPorta led the way, going 2-for-6 with a double and a home run. Chad Huffman and Jason Donald added two doubles apiece.

Rochester 7, Columbus 2
T.J. McFarland continued to struggle; he allowed six runs on 12 hits in 5 innings to Rochester. J. C. Romero, who the Indians signed a week ago, threw a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief.

Akron (AA)

Portland 1, Akron 0
A start like the one Giovanni Soto had can't hurt when the Indians decide who to replace Corey Kluber in Columbus rotation. Soto allowed just 1 run (0 earned) in 7 innings on 4 hits but took the loss, as the Aeros were shut out on 7 hits.

Carolina (A+)

Carolina 2, Myrtle Beach 1
Danny Salazar went five innings and allowed just 1 run on three hits. He threw just 67 pitches, 50 of them for strikes. Tony Wolters went 2-for-3 with a walk, and Carlos Moncrief added a double.

Lake County (A-)

Lake County 3, West Michigan 2
The Captains collected 15 hits (all singles) but managed only 3 runs. However those 3 runs were enough to defeat West Michigan. Mason Radeke, Nicholas Pasquale, and Enosil Tejada combined to hold the Whitecaps to 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits. Jose Ramirez, Francisco Lindor, and Bryson Miles all had three hits apiece.

Lake County 11, Dayton 2
Daniel Jimenez threw five one-hit innings, and the Captains bludgeoned the Dragons for 11 runs on 13 hits. Jerrud Sabourin and Bryson Myles had three hits apiece, and Jordan Smith reached base three times (two hits and a walk).

Mahoning Valley (SSA)

Brooklyn 5, Mahoning Valley 1
Luis Morel was stung for 4 runs in 4.1 innings. The Scrappers were held to just 4 hits, 3 of them by Tyler Naquin (two singles and a double).

AZL Indians (R-)

AZL Rangers 11, AZL Indians 2
Kieran Lovegrove allowed three runs in 3.1 innings on 5 hits. The AZL Tribe was held to four hits, all of them singles.

AZL Reds 10, AZL Indians 7
Dillon Howard was hammered yet again, this time he gave up 4 runs in just an inning of work. On the offensive side, Nelson Rodriguez hit his third home run, and Jorge Martinez went 2-for-5.

Akron (AA): Placed IF Matt Lawson (ankle) and C Patric Tolentino (calf) on disabled list; RHP Steven Wright traded to Boston organization

Carolina (A+): Promoted IF Justin Toole to Akron (AA); Activated RHP Trey Haley from disabled list

Lake County (A-): Todd Hankins promoted to Carolina (A-)

Mahoning Valley (SSA): None

AZL Indians (R+): RHP Yhoxian Medina promoted to Lake County (A-)
