Minor League Recap: July 11, 2012

International League All-Stars 0, Pacific Coast League All-Stars 3

Matt LaPorta, Russ Canzler and Cord Phelps represented the IL in the AAA All-Star clash. Unfortunately they combined to go 0-6 (LaPorta had a walk!). No one else on the IL squad really fared better, though.

Eastern League West All-Stars 4, Eastern League East All-Stars 5

Thomas Neal, Steven Wright and Kyle Landis represented Akron on the losing Western Eastern League All-Star team (they really should figure out a better name for these squads). Neal went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Steven Wright pitched a perfect 2nd inning, striking out two in the process. Kyle Landis added a perfect 4th inning. But in the end, the Aeros' efforts were not enough.

Carolina: Off

Lake County 8, Wisconsin 11

Lake County scored eight runs in the first four innings, but Wisconsin matched them with eight runs in the final five innings (plus three in the 3rd) to take the victory. Jose Ramirez, Luigi Rodriguez, Jake Lowery and Bryson Myles all had multiple hits for the Captains.

Mahoning Valley 4, Lowell 5

I had considered making the drive up to Lowell with my 7-year old last night to check out the Scrappers. After blowing one-run leads in the bottom of the 9th and bottom of the 13th, I am pretty glad that I chose alternative plans. Offensively, the Scrappers were paced by 2010 17th-round pick, Aaron Siliga, a left-handed outfielder from Oceanside HS, CA, who finished a homerun short of the cycle in six ABs (.296/.352/.396). Charlie Valerio, a catching prospect from the D.R., added a HR, single, two walks and two SBs (.316/.413/.434). Luis DeJesus started for Mahoning Valley, going six strong innings and continuing a solid five-start stretch for the Scrappers.

AZL Indians 3, AZL Royals 1

Led by 18-year old Venezuelan lefty, Luis Lugo, the AZL Tribe held off the Royals. Lugo put together his best start yet as a pro, going five innings, allowing just two hits, a walk, no runs and striking out five.
