A Collection of Interesting Grooming - Indians Edition

Over the years, many Indians have distinguished themselves on the field with their hitting, pitching and defense. Others have contributed in different ways that transcend their playing. I'm talking about aesthetics, or more specifically, their appearance. Playing well is one things, but playing well while looking good is quite another.

For some, looking good was all they had, but that was enough as far as I'm concerned. Here are some players who may not have garnered cheers for their play, but are still still seared in our minds because of how they looked.

Yett_rich_medium

How could one look so good, yet play so bad? Yett was part of the package that came from Minnesota for Bert Blyleven; thankfully Jay Bell was part of that deal, for otherwise the Indians would not have been able to acquire Felix Fermin.

Yett looked like he was trying to emulate Robert Redford from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and in that I think he succeeded. As for his emulation of a major-league pitcher, well, that didn't work out so well.

Camacho_ernie_medium

The glasses actually pushed Camacho into this list; without them, it's just a rather pedestrian early '80s hairstyle. The spectacles just gives the face a sense of balance, though perhaps the lenses affected his mechanics.

Waits_rick_medium

Perhaps the secret to Waits' success against the Yankees was to give opposing New York hitters a sense of envy. After all, his luxurious locks may not have passed muster if he was subject to George Steinbrenner's grooming regulations.

Dybzinski_jerry_medium

To be honest with you, Dybzinski was probably going to make this list even he was clean shaven and sported a crew cut. That he also had a 'stache was a glorious bonus.

Diaz_bo_medium

The first full beard on the list. Going Full Beard seemed to be an anomaly during this time, as I couldn't find too many (Bert Blyleven was also a notable exception, but he was too good to make this list).

I couldn't leave out the coaching staff from consideration, and of course Eric Wedge was at the top of the list. Wedge's clean-shaven early days as manager was obviously an anomaly, as most of the pictures of him in his playing career reveal.
