Columbus 3, Lehigh Valley 2
Coincidentally, Zach McAllister pitched on the same day that Jeanmar Gomez did. McAllister wasn't exactly sharp (he gave up 9 hits) but he allowed just 2 runs in 6 innings of work. Scott Barnes, Cody Allen (possible candidate for the major-league bullpen) and Chris Ray (ditto) pitched three scoreless innings between them. Matt LaPorta hit his 16th home run.
Altoona 13, Akron 5
Brett Brach gave up 8 runs in 3.2 innings, but only half of them were earned. He walked 5 and allowed 7 hits. Chun Chen and Jeremie Tice both went deep for the Aeros.
Carolina 9, Wilmington 8 (Game 1)
This was a wild one, with both teams having a 5-run inning, and both scoring three runs in the seventh. Bo Greenwell went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Carlos Moncrief went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Carolina 6, Wilmington 5 (Game 2)
The Mudcats won Game 2 by a run as well, though in this case all the scoring was done in the early innings. Cole Cook, just up from Lake County, gave up 5 runs in 2.1 innings, but the Carolina bullpen held things in check the rest of the way. Ronny Rodriguez hit his 6th home run.
Fort Wayne 4, Lake County 0
All the scoring was done in the first inning, with the Tincaps scoring four off Captains starter Elvis Araujo. Araujo would settle down, pitching into the fifth, but Lake County would only manage four hits off starter Adys Portillo and the Fort Wayne bullpen.
State College 9, Mahoning Valley 2
2011 draft pick Geoffrey Davenport had his second bad outing in as many starts, and the Scrappers only managed 2 runs on 8 hits. Tyler Naquin was not in the lineup, and the only extra-base hit was a double by Mitch Nilsson (free agent signing in 2010 from Australia).
AZL Indians 13, AZL Brewers 2
The Indians collected 6 extra-base hits on the night (5 doubles, 1 triple). Four players had three hits on the night (Joshua McAdams, Tyler Booth, Jorge Martinez, and Andrew Campbell). Shao-Ching Chiang, who the Indians signed last fall from Taiwan, made his professional debut, giving up a run on 2 hits in an inning of work.
