Charlotte 5, Columbus 4 (10 innings)
The Clippers lost in 10 innings on a wild pitch by Frank Herrmann. Cord Phelps hit his 8th home run, and Jason Donald walked.
Binghampton 4, Akron 2
Giovanny Soto went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs, but left with the lead. The bullpen gave up 2 runs plus allowed an inherited run to score in the sixth. Juan Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double.
Carolina 7, Wilmington 3
The two teams combined for 20 hits, so the score could have been much higher on both ends. Eight of the nine Mudcats in the starting lineup had at least 2 hits. Jesus Aguilar, who will be going to the Futures Game, hit his 7th home run. Carolina hit 6 doubles; Tony Wolters had two of them.
Lake County was off on Thursday
Jamestown 6, Mahoning Valley 2
Second baseman Jose Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk and was promptly promoted to Lake County.
This game had almost as many hits (19) as the Carolina game, even fewer runs scored. 3B Jorge Martinez went 3-for-4 with 2 walks and 2 doubles. This is 19-year-old Martinez's third season in the Arizona League, so I'm going to guess that he'll be promoted to Mahoning Valley or even Lake County very shortly as part of the usual mid-season promotions.
