The Indians signed Spilborghs to a Minor-League deal back in January, after the Colorado Rockies non-tendered him in December. He would have earned a $1 million base salary if he was on the big league roster. He reported to AAA Columbus on April 3rd and hit .250 / .341 / .331 in 85 plate appearances.
The Rangers were interested in Spilborghs over the off-season, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. With Leonys Martin out 6-8 weeks, the club needed some outfield depth.
Spilborghs, 32, spent all of his seven seasons with the Rockies, earning a .272 / .345 / .423 career line while creating around negative one Win(s) Above Replacement.
