Open Thread: Wild Card Chat

Chat for today's Wild Card Games

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

One of the main drawbacks to increasing the amount of content is fragmenting conversations. I know it's difficult to have a long-term conversation when the topic is being split up four ways. In the old days, there was one post on the subject, and it would stick around at least a couple days on the front page, time enough for everyone to comment and respond to comments several different times.

I want to re-create this by utilizing the cover. Finally I have a way to keep a a post in full view at the top page for as long as the conversation continues. So if there's something that keeps you interested for two weeks, it can stay up there.

My thought is to create Open Threads that have a general topic, and allow those conversations to take place there. But maybe that's not what you want. So this Open Thread's topic will be about...Open Threads. What would you like to talk about? Is it just about baseball, or would you like to talk about off topic stuff? Or should I just throw up an Open Thread once the old one goes stale and let it be more of a hangout than anything?

Update: Might as well keep this up for today's Wild Card Games:

Based on talent level and home field advantage, you'd give the edge to Texas, but man, these teams arrive at today's game with totally different mindsets; the Orioles just finished off a magical regular season, and the Rangers, who seemed like they were going to cruise to a third straight AL West title, collapsed the last week of the season, and now find themselves in a do-or-die game just to get into the Division Series.

The Braves, like the Red Sox, had to deal with a late-season collapse in 2011, but unlike the Red Sox, the Braves kept their team together, and they had a very successful season this year. They have a chance to exorcise some demons by taking out the Cardinals, who caught and overtook them last season.
