Minor Victory

Because sometimes you need one...

Tonight wasn't all about losing for the Indians organization.  Akron inaugurated the Indians 2009 minor league season with a 9-5 victory over Bowie.  And it was a good night for some of Cleveland's brightest prospects.  Carlos Santana, batting cleanup, had a 3-run HR in the bottom of the first to give Akron an ealry lead.  He later brought in Carlos Rivero to give him 4 RBIs for the game.  Speaking of Rivero, batting in the 2-spot, he went 1-3 with 2 walks (no Ks) and 2 runs scored.  Beau Mills had a single and an RBI.  Jared Goedert went 2-5 with a 2B.  Nick Weglarz went 0-3, but true to form, walked twice. And yes, Akron is featuring a fantastic four-some of Rivero, Mills, Santana and Weglarz in the 2-5 slots. On the mound, Hector Rondon earned his first victory going 5.2, allowing 5 hits and a run.  He walked one, struck out 6, and got 8 of his 11 BIP outs on grounders.  Randy Newsom got his first save of the season, taking care of Bowie's last four batters in order.
