The pitching match ups certainly didn't favor the Indians in the first two games of this series, and they played out on the field as they did on paper.
Last night's game was eminently winnable, though. Jake Westbrook in some respects pitched better than John Lackey. He walked 5 (2 of which were intentional), though none of those came back to haunt him.
Ryan Garko stunned the home crowd in the ninth, taking a Francisco Rodriguez pitched out to the opposite field. The Indians had a chance of breaking the game open later in the inning, when Asdrubal Cabrera faced Scot Shields with the bases loaded and two outs, but Cabrera struck out looking. The Indians didn't have another real chance to break the tie.
The division lead is now down to 5, with another 5 games to go on the road trip, and another three games with Detroit to come. The AL Central race is definitely not over.
