Recalled LHP Cliff Lee from Buffalo (AAA)
Lee is back with the big-league club, just not as a starter. In a sign of how bad his 2007 season has been, he'll be pitching mainly in blowouts. Cliff continued to have control problems in Buffalo, walking 25 in 41 innings, and wasn't able to go deep into games even facing AAA hitters. How he fits onto the 2008 Indians is a very interesting question, but for now, his role on this year's team is rather mundane.
Recalled OF Ben Francisco from Buffalo (AAA)
Unlike Lee, Francisco's stock seems to rising rapidly. He hit .299/.368/.526 with the Bisons in the second half of the year, and while his role will also be small this September, he has an excellent shot of making next year's club.
Recalled RHP Mike Koplove from Buffalo (AAA)
Koplove is here to eat some innings and try to make some good impressions. He's eligible for arbitration after the season.
Recalled OF Brad Snyder from Buffalo (AAA); Placed him on the 15-day Disabled List (thumb)
This roster move is designed to leave open the possibility of adding a player to the postseason roster that wasn't on the 25-man roster in late August. In 2002, the Angels exploited this loophole to perfection, adding a young Francisco Rodriguez to their playoff roster.
Purchased the Contract of IF Luis Rivas; Recalled him to Cleveland
Rivas had a decent year in Buffalo after a disastrous 2006 campaign. There's a possibility he beats out Josh Barfield for a spot on the postseason roster if the Indians make it that far.
Designated LHP John Koronka for Assignment
Koronka made nine starts for the Bisons after the Indians claimed him off waivers, allowing 62 hits in 48.1 innings.
