Things are breaking the Indians' way. Down 5-2 in the eighth inning, Ryan Garko hit a sure groundout to shortstop - except it hit the lip of the grass and bounded away from Jose Uribe.

"It took a funny hop," Garko said. "Sometimes nothing goes your way, and all of a sudden we're catching breaks."

It was then that Mike MacDougal went into full meltdown mode, walking the next two batters he faced, bringing up Casey Blake with the bases loaded and two outs. Normally the outcome would have been assured, but not tonight: Blake double down the right field line, clearing the bases.

The White Sox have lost 10 straight road games for the first time since 1977, and following their latest loss, manager Ozzie Guillen, who has spent the past few days venting about his club's poor season, could only shrug his shoulders.

"It's getting to the point where you want to laugh," he said. "It's not easy. Sometimes you erupt and sometimes you just take the beating."

Fausto Carmona couldn't command any of his pitches consistently tonight, giving up 13 base runners in six innings.   Mark Buehrle pitched his usual seven innings, allowing just four hits and two runs. But, as bullpens from the past have taught us, the game does end after seven innings.

One month to go. 5.5 games up.
