The (Waiver) Wire

It looks like Leo Mazzone will have another Indians castoff to turn around, according to the Baltimore Sun:

Another Cabrera?
According to two league sources, the Orioles have called the Cleveland Indians to inquire about right-handed reliever Fernando Cabrera, who was designated for assignment Wednesday.

I guess the good news is that other teams have an interest in the talented reliever (otherwise why bother with contacting Shapiro?), so the Indians will at least get something for him.

In other waiver news, Hector Luna has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays weren't particularly concerned about the issues Luna had with the Indians, who were angry when he came to camp out of shape and struggled defensively. Those were the main reasons they cut him.

Ricciardi feels that's all behind him.

"We've seen him play all year," he said. "He doesn't look like he's out of shape to me."

Unfortunately, while Luna may be in better shape, his bat seems to be suffering from anorexia.
