The Indians didn't put this one away until the eighth inning, which made Fausto Carmona's seven solid innings more important than the final score indicates. Carmona's starting to get strikeouts in addition to his normal grounders, which is a key step in him establishing himself as a consistent starter.
Franklin Gutierrez hit his second home run in as many starts, which certainly won't hurt him in the playing time department. At the very least, his play might force Eric Wedge into making right field into a true platoon again.
Of concern was another poor outing by Tom Mastny. Today marked the third straight outing in which the Indonesian native allowed multiple runs.
Next Up: The Indians travel to Cincinnati face top prospect Homer Bailey in his major-league debut. Cliff Lee will oppose him. Game time is 7:05 PM.
