Season 106, Game 4
Minnesota (1-2) at Cleveland (2-1), 3:05 PM (WKYC)
Starting Pitchers (2005 Stats):
Cleveland: Paul Byrd (12-11, 3.74 ERA)
Minnesota: Kyle Lohse (9-13, 4.18 ERA)
The Indians come off an emotionally-charged series with one AL Central nemesis only to play another bitter rival in the next series.
Paul Byrd was drafted by the Indians in 1991, but never played for the organization that selected him. Today he finally gets to pitch for Cleveland, and has debut happened to coincide with the home opener.
The Twins have a couple new faces on offense, although the Indians are familiar with them. Rondell White was signed away from the Tigers, and will serve as the team's primary DH, while third baseman Tony Batista returns after a stint in Japan.
The strength of the Twins has been its pitching staff, and they've added a couple of promising arms to the staff this season in Francisco Liriano and Scott Baker. The Indians will face Baker in game two, and will probably see Liriano out of the bullpen before the weekend is over.
Today's starter, Kyle Lohse, is probably in his final season with the Twins. He's a free agent at the end of the season, and Minnesota has his replacement (Liriano) in place.
