The first cuts of the spring. Crowe is ticketed to Kinston and Francisco will be in Buffalo, according to indians.com.
The article also reiterates that Crowe may be moved to second base after this upcoming season. Why wait until next fall to make the move? My guess is that the team wants Crowe to concentrate on his hitting this season; sometimes a player can press on offense if he's learning a different position. It also might have to do with Ronnie Belliard; I don't really see the Indians giving him a long-term deal, but if they do sign him, there's no point in moving Crowe to second. But all this is moot if Trevor doesn't hit.
As far as Francisco is concerned, he's next on the depth chart if Todd Hollandsworth goes down. I mentioned earlier that Jason Dubois is really a bad fit as a fourth outfielder; well, Ben Francisco is IMO a perfect fit. On a team with a ton of base cloggers, he'd be a nice pinch runner. He can play all three outfield positions. He reminds me a bit of Jody Gerut circa 2003.
