Toronto has extended center fielder Vernon Wells through 2014, and it cost them $126M to do so. According to Cot's, the contract includes a "signing bonus" of $25.5M, payable over the first three years (2008-2010) of the contract. The deal is ridiculously backloaded, with $85.5M of the contract being paid out over the last four years of the deal.
To boot, Wells can opt out of the contract after 2011, and the deal includes a full no-trade clause. Suffice to say, there's no hometown discount.
