Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez has opted out of the last two years of his contract. He now becomes a free agent eligible to sign with any team. Like last year, there's a real dearth of quality among free agent third basemen  (Pedro Feliz and Joe Randa were the best of the bunch), so Ramirez should really be able to cash in.

Also, Aaron Boone and Lou Merloni have both filed for free agency, so the 40-man roster now stands at 35.
