Just Win, Baby

On the day when the NFL season starts with the Oakland Raiders visiting New England, Kevin Millwood's start epitomized Oakland's famous mantra.

Kevin couldn't spot his fastball at all, yet somehow pitched five innings and gave the Indians a chance to win. The Tigers had ample opportunities to knock Millwood out of the ballgame, but baserunning errors and double plays kept in the Indians in the game.

As usual, the Indians scored all four of their runs via the longball. Casey Blake hit his third in two days; he's hitting .270/.332/.506 since the All-Star Break. Aaron Boone and Coco Crisp also homered, and bullpen made the lead stand up with four scoreless innings.

The Indians' reward? Johan Santana tomorrow. Tommorow's game kicks off a great sports weekend in Ohio; the Buckeyes square off against Texas on Saturday night, the Browns open their season against the Bengals on Sunday afternoon, and the Indians cap the weekend off with a Sunday night game against the Twins.
